BENEFITING: CYSTIC FIBROSIS FOUNDATION
ORGANIZER: CYSTIC FIBROSIS FOUNDATION
EVENT: Pittsburgh Marathon 2017
EVENT DATE: May 07, 2017
Last year my husband Ray & I participated on the Relay Team for "Team Natalie" with her parents Lindsey and Doug. It was more of a run/walk for me since I'm not a runner but it was great to participate and see the support from people along the way cheering and thanking us for helping to raise money for this amazing cause. This year Ray will be running but I wanted to be there for support so I decided to "fast walk" the last leg of the relay and meet everyone at the finish line!
Watching this amazing little girl grow has been such a joy and inspiration. Even with everything she has to go through on a daily basis she has the happiest, most outgoing bubbly, brightiest, loving personality ever! From her daily vest treatments (30 minutes each- 2-3x/day), breathing treatments, 9 enzymes with every meal and some with snacks (that she takes like a big girl- because she's 4!), or being in the hospital with a PICC line she's STILL one of the happiest little girls ever! She LOVES to color and somehow manages to stay in the lines even while she is vibrating with her vest on! She's so proud of her artwork and Papap and I have many beautiful pictures to display:) When she hugs me I just want to melt and when she sits on my lap at her sister's socccer games I feel like the luckiest gramma alive! I will cherish those moments forever ♥
Our whole family has embraced the cause to help cure CF. We want to do everything we can to raise money and awareness to cure this disease. Just one look at that sweet face keeps us all going. But Natalie wouldn't be doing as well as she is without her absolutely AMAZING parents. Without their wonderful care Natalie would not be as healthy as she is. They are a very active family and do NOT let CF stand in the way of doing so many fun family things together. They do every CF fundraiser there is including The Pittsburgh Marathon, Great Strides Walk, Cycle for Life Bike Ride and the Extreme Hike (25 miles)! In addition, after both of Natalie's hospitalizations they learned to give IV PICC line meds at home 3x/day , 1 1/2 hrs each time even during the night for up to 10 days!
We appreciate any support you can give to help CURE CF! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for helping Natalie and so many others affected by this disease! ♥♥♥

Our Run to Cure CF team in Pittsburgh continues to grow each year, as do our research efforts and the progress we’ve made in the search for a cure. Real progress toward a cure has been made, but the lives of young people are still cut far too short. Won’t you join us in continuing the search for a cure? Accept the challenge today and help add tomorrows to the lives of those living with cystic fibrosis by registering to run or making a donation to one of our dedicated team members!
We've made incredible progress in the fight against cystic fibrosis, but we still need to strive to cross that finish line and find a cure!
What Is Cystic Fibrosis?
Cystic fibrosis is an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system of about 30,000 children and adults in the United States (70,000 worldwide). A defective gene and its protein product cause the body to produce unusually thick, sticky mucus that clogs the lungs and leads to life-threatening lung infections, and obstructs the pancreas and stops natural enzymes from helping the body break down and absorb food.
In the 1950s, few children with cystic fibrosis lived to attend elementary school. Today, advances in research and medical treatments have further enhanced and extended life for children and adults with CF. Many people with the disease can now expect to live into their 30s, 40s and beyond.
