BENEFITING: CYSTIC FIBROSIS FOUNDATION
ORGANIZER: CYSTIC FIBROSIS FOUNDATION
EVENT: Pittsburgh Marathon 2017
EVENT DATE: May 07, 2017
Scrolling through Facebook a few weeks ago, I saw a post from Hannah Camic about Run to Cure CF for the Pittsburgh Marathon. Hannah is a teacher at Bethel Park High School I never had in high school. I read what she had to say about cystic fibrosis and to hear she has run many marathons with CF is truly inspirational to me.
I was lucky enough to get to know someone very well who has cystic fibrosis. Many of you know Kelsey. I didn't know much a few months ago about cystic fibrosis but Kelsey and I became very close friends and I got to see the daily struggle Cystic Fibrosis causes.
Cystic Fibrosis is not something Kelsey and Hannah Camic chose to have but the mindset they have towards it is amazing. For me, I hope signing up for the half marathon and training (as a terrible runner) will maybe give me a glimpse of what Kelsey, Hannah, and many other people with Cystic Fibrosis go through.
A donation to support my efforts to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation will mean a ton to me and will do more in the lives of people with Cystic Fibrosis than you will ever know so I urge you to generously donate!!!
Thanks to all of you in advance!

Our Run to Cure CF team in Pittsburgh continues to grow each year, as do our research efforts and the progress we’ve made in the search for a cure. Real progress toward a cure has been made, but the lives of young people are still cut far too short. Won’t you join us in continuing the search for a cure? Accept the challenge today and help add tomorrows to the lives of those living with cystic fibrosis by registering to run or making a donation to one of our dedicated team members!
We've made incredible progress in the fight against cystic fibrosis, but we still need to strive to cross that finish line and find a cure!
What Is Cystic Fibrosis?
Cystic fibrosis is an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system of about 30,000 children and adults in the United States (70,000 worldwide). A defective gene and its protein product cause the body to produce unusually thick, sticky mucus that clogs the lungs and leads to life-threatening lung infections, and obstructs the pancreas and stops natural enzymes from helping the body break down and absorb food.
In the 1950s, few children with cystic fibrosis lived to attend elementary school. Today, advances in research and medical treatments have further enhanced and extended life for children and adults with CF. Many people with the disease can now expect to live into their 30s, 40s and beyond.
