BENEFITING: CYSTIC FIBROSIS FOUNDATION
ORGANIZER: CYSTIC FIBROSIS FOUNDATION
EVENT: Pittsburgh Marathon 2017
EVENT DATE: May 07, 2017
Of all the things we take for granted, family, friends or our lifestyle, our ability to breathe freely surely ranks low on the list. But for someone afflicted with Cystic Fibrosis this simple act is not so simple. It is complicated. It can consume a good portion of their thoughts and actions on a daily basis. I can't relate. As a runner, when I really push myself, my breathing can become a little labored. But I know that with a very short rest, my breathing will quickly return to normal. Not so with CF. Cystic Fibrosis is a progressive, genetic disease that causes persistant lung infections and limits the abilty to breathe over time. In the U.S. approx 1,000 cases are diagnosed yearly, 75% are children under the age of 2. While there has been significant progress in treating this disease, there is still no cure and far too many lives are affected or cut short.
Please join me in my efforts to help others. I am running the 2017 Pittsburgh Marathon on Sunday, May 7th. I will have the satisfaction of knowing that I'll have spent 4 months of training which permitted my 67 year old body to finish. You, should you choose to donate, will have the satisfaction of knowing that you are helping to find a cure. Please, donate any amount you choose. Any amount. Graciously accepted.
For those who want more incentive:
1. For a donation of $25 or more, you can pick any one of the 26 miles that I'll run and I'll dedicate it to you or anyone you like. Furthermore, I will loudly sing throughout the mile, any song of your choosing.
2. Anyone donating $75 or more will have the song dedication for the final .2 miles and you can choose my style of running(?) ie. backwards, sideways, skipping, etc.
3. Since I am, in a sense, sacrificing my body, I will sell you the advertising rights to the top of my bald head for a mere $100. Other body surfaces are negotiable...... I'm having a little fun with this but I'm very serious about the cause. Please join me in my efforts.
Also, I am the captain of a 2017 Pittsburgh Marathon Relay team comprised of myself,David and Kevin Hatfield,John Reis and Ben Geier.
