Run to Mtulu 2017
Run to Mtulu: Kids' Color Fun Run*
Date: Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017
Time: 3:00 PM
Location: Uplands Elementary School (2055 Wembley Park Road, Lake Oswego)
Students will run a one-mile course that has "challenges" mimicking what our Kenyan students face as they literally run to school. Also, come see pictures of the classroom that YOU helped raise money to build at Mtulu Primary School. There will be a bake sale, a raffle, and some fun events to help kids learn more about life in Kenya.
This year we are focusing on Taru Girls High School, a girls' high school that is overcrowded, underfunded, and in serious need of both a new dorm and classroom. Currently the dorm is built for 80 girls, but these students cram nearly 150 in the dorm. There are bunk beds lining the hallways and squeezed into every open corner.
This January, an additional 90+ girls will join Taru Girls and there is nowhere to put them. They all have to share seven showers, nine toilets and six sinks.
You can help! Here's how:
- Join the fun run by donating. (Click on the orange "donate to a fundraiser" button near the top right. The registration this year suggests a $15/person donation, as opposed to a fixed registration fee. Pre-register to avoid same-day lines!)
- Start your own fundraising team. This year, we want to invite every child to share how Kenya Keys has touched him or her. **There will be prizes for the top fundraisers on race day!
- Make a donation. Even if you can't attend the event, every dollar counts! Donate to the general fund or a team.
To start your own team, click on the gray "set up your own fundraiser" near the top righthand side. Tell your connection, then share the link, spread the word, and let us know how Kenya Keys has helped you value your own education.
Together, we really are making a difference.
* "Run to Mtulu" T-shirts will be sold at the event for $5/shirt. You can also just wear an old t-shirt; the color is washable but be on the safe side and please don't wear an outfit you really care about!
