Run to Rescue
- I'm running a 5k on December 27th, 2014 for free girls from slavery in Indonesia
- My goal is to raise $500 by December 27th, 2014
- Let your Christmas gift to me be a donation to this Run to Rescue
On the 22nd of November, I woke up early in the morning to run. I hadn’t run in a while, but that morning, in particular, had a difficult start. I found myself battling internally with one question: Why do I run?
We can run for ourselves: to lose weight, to feel better about ourselves, acceptance, to be healthy, etc. Sometimes running is out of joy, but sometimes out of guilt. I found myself wanting my running to not be for me, but for a bigger purpose.
In The Bible, the Apostle Paul wrote to the Christians in Rome saying, “For everything comes from him [God] and exists by his power and is intended for his glory. All glory to him forever! Amen. And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him” (Romans 11:36-12:1).
God is working in our world to repurpose and redeem the brokenness we see and experience on a daily basis. He created us to live for him and like him--as Jesus did walking on the earth. This means sacrifice. We were created to live for God and sacrifice ourselves for others.
So, that morning I asked God to repurpose my running. I asked for not just a personal gain when I ran, but rather a gain that went beyond me… and right after I finished my run I got a message from my friend Brianna Ebanks-Wilkerson telling me about Run to Rescue (https://www.crowdrise.com/runtorescue/fundraiser/briannaebankswilkers).
She wrote about how God cares for those without a voice - especially young girls and women who are trafficked, misused, and abused. This is what she wrote:
“As I write this, tears come to my eyes as I think about the preciousness of these women. I think about how throughout the Bible, God is angry at the injustice done to his people. His anger burns and his wrath came down. Psalm 50:6 says he is a God of justice. He dearly loves HIs children and sees them as precious, worth protecting, and will act when they are hurt and abused. Take a minute now to think about if someone hurt your daughter, your sister, your cousin, your mother. I've thought about that many times and you know what? My heart burned in rage, anger, and desire to protect them. And I know if anyone was to hurt them, I would raise a ruckus until justice was administered. NOW think about God - Does he not feel the same, if not more for His daughters around the world?”
This is why I TOO must act. So, for Christmas, I want to join my friend and Run to Rescue as well. I will be running a 5k on my own on December 27th, 2014 and am inviting YOU, my family, and friends to partner with me in this. My goal is to raise $500 by December 27th to rescue and free women from slavery in Indonesia where prostitution is legal and where women are vulnerable to sexual human trafficking and labor exploitation.
So this Christmas, your gift to me can be donating towards this Run to Rescue. And please know that this gift will be a gift to these women in Indonesia.
