Team REACH started as "Stairmasters" in February 2012, three middle-aged female colleagues choosing to take to the stairs in our art-deco federal office building for a workplace fitness challenge, instead of joining a gym. We started with walking up the six flights from our credit union to our office. We slowly added flights, until another co-worker (one of those two-steps at a time people) told us about this really awesome view from the 20th floor and we pushed ourselves and were indeed rewarded with a gorgeous view of the Boston Harbor and the airport. At 12:12pm on 12/12/12, Diana, Pat and Ruth took our photo on ...(drumroll)... the 12th floor. Our little group's membership is somewhat fluid as we have meetings and calls to tend to, since we are at work after all and we're always trying to recruit new folks. Pat and Ruth remain from the original trio, after our friend Susan retired. Usually, it's Diana, Pat, Carol and Ruth. When we can, we do the whole thing 1-23, which is 25 flights. "Team REACH" (the name is an inside joke for us bureaucrats) had six climbers for our inaugural event of 38 flights on January 26, 2014. We are psyched to climb the stairs at Fenway on June 7th, and hope to add more co-workers and friends. So why are we doing Climb America? Bragging rights. And heart disease doesn't get enough airtime.
ClimbCorps is thrilled to host the first ever stadium climb at Fenway Park to raise funds and awareness for heart disease - America's #1 killer. On June 7, 2014, thousands of climbers will come together at ClimbAmerica! to scale the stairs in Boston's historic Fenway park to have fun, get moving and make a difference in the fight against heart disease. Registration is free and to help make the biggest impact in the fight against heart disease, all climbers are required to raise $200 before or on event day. Space is limited so guarantee your spot and register today!
