Ruthie's Team

Organized by: Emily Alcorn

Ruthie’s Team was formed in honor and memory of our Mom, Ruth Alcorn, who passed away from Pancreatic Cancer in May 2015. We have chosen to honor her memory by raising money in order to fund an annual scholarship which will be given to a senior at Riverview High School to be put towards their college education. Ruth was as business and instructional support teacher at Riverview High School having retired in 2013 and her passion was helping students succeed in their education, challenging them to perform above their perceived capabilities. Two of her other passions were exercise and travel. Ruth was an avid golfer and attended two gyms regularly, participating in spin classes, Pilates and a Monday evening “Ball Class” with her beloved friends. In addition to many foreign countries, Ruth traveled to 49 out of 50 states during her lifetime. To honor these passions, Ruthie’s Team will participate in an endurance event each year in a different state to raise money for the scholarship. Our first event will be the Fargo Half Marathon in North Dakota, which is the only state in this great country that Ruth did not visit. Our fund raising goal is $5,000 for the scholarship and money raised in excess of this goal will be donated directly to the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute.

We sincerely appreciate donations towards this effort to honor Ruth.  By donating you will be supporting a student in funding their education and the runners on Ruthie's Team who will be dedicating time and energy to completing a half marathon.

Ruth was a bright, vibrant and beautiful wife, mother, sister and friend who ALWAYS wanted to have fun.  If you would like to have fun and challenge yourself with a half marathon as a member of Ruthie's Team in North Dakota, please reach out directly to Emily.
