On September 8th my mother, Ruth Vail, was hit by a minivan as she took her mother's dog for a walk. My grandmother's dog, Molly, was killed in the accident while my mother, Ruth, was airlifted to KU Medical Center when x-rays revealed a severely broken pelvis. She remained in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit for over a week. She underwent three surgeries to repair broken bones and patch up her wounds. She will very likely have one to two more surgeries in her future and she's very beaten up. Recently she was moved to a rehabilitation hospital in Topeka, KS where she's receiving speach, occupational, physical therapy, and more to aide in her recovery.
She has a long road of recovery ahead of her. She can't bare weight on her legs until a minimum of 10 weeks after her pelvic surgery so she will be wheelchair bound for at least a few months. My parents house will need to have a wheelchair ramp built, as well as some renovations to the downstairs so that my mom will be able to come home. We need a lot of help and support in order for her recovery to go smoothly. Any and all help is appreciated - even if you can't donate money please feel free to email me, her daughter Megan, at MegVail@gmail.com to see if there is any other way you can help!
