Rwandan Coffee Benefit Fundraiser
Organized by: Rwanda Bean Company
Help us support the farmers that bring you the coffee you love!
Two decades after violent genocide, Rwanda is fueled by a collective will to progress. Rwandan coffee farming is a tradition that spans generations for many families. But while it generates significant export revenue, the majority of Rwanda's coffee farmers remain in abject poverty.
Rwanda Bean Company was founded to source high-quality coffee direct from hard-working Rwandan farmers and return more than just a fair price for the beans. Rwanda Bean contributes 50% of its profits to community development projects – from funding school fees and health insurance for our farm families, to expanding farm infrastructure and electrifying rural regions with renewable power from wind and solar technologies. With the help of Arabica Coffee and other domestic roasters, our mission is to ensure equitable profits get back to the farm.
It's stunning to see how much hard work goes into a great cup of coffee and it's our duty to improve the lives of those who spend their days harvesting the coffee beans we often take for granted.
The farmers that we support need our help to continue producing the coffee that we all love. Our initial fundraising goal is $10,000. Proceeds will go towards improving the Karora Cooperative’s washing station, specifically adding:
- Water storage
- Drying beds
- Improved electricity
- A storage facility (post-washing and drying), and
- A truck for collecting harvested beans from smallholding farm members.
The fundraising campaign kicked off on July 15th with a benefit event at Arabica Coffee on Commercial Street in Portland, ME. It will continue into the month of August and any amount ($5 to $500) will help strengthen the Karora washing station and community!
