This November I will be going on a missions trip to Rwanda, Africa! This awesome experience will take place from November 7th through the 18th. A group of 10 of us from Black Rock Church in Fairfield, CT will be going and working with World Relief and the local churches to help orphans, those with AIDS, and those living in extreme poverty. I look forward to the experience, as it will help me grow in faith by leaving just about everyone and everything I know and love behind and trusting in God to provide in what to me is an unknown land. I will experience a culture that is different from American culture, something I have never done before.
So why Rwanda specifically? In 1994 in Rwanda, there was a massive genocide where the Hutu majority attacked and killed an estimated 800,000 Tutsis and the moderate Hutus who sided with them, leaving the country broken. Rwanda has been slowly recovering since, through the help of foreign aid and through organizations such as World Relief. This trip partnering with World Relief and we will be working alongside them to improve this country of about 11.5 million people. Most of the country is Christian and we will be working with the churches in whatever way they need to help boost their efforts to aid the community.
