I'm so excited to announce my missions trip to Rwanda this coming November. From the 8th to the 18th we will be visiting one of Africa's most densely-populated and rapidly-developing countries. We will be visiting and caring for orphans, people living with HIV/AIDS, and those living in poverty.
I'm going on this trip because I want to serve people who live a very different life from ours, and because I want to see God's direct work in a place that would be hopeless without Him.
In 1994, Rwanda was affected by a genocide that killed an estimated 800,000 people, mostly minority Tutsis and moderate Hutus who sympathized with them. Since this horrible tragedy, the culture has shifted to one of corporate mourning and forgiveness.
This trip will be done alongside of 9 of my peers from Black Rock Church, including my girlfriend Bonnie. We'll be serving in cooperation with World Relief. It will be a new step of faith for most of us. Your prayers and financial support are both so important to us and mean a lot.
Thanks for taking the time to read this! If you'd like to be added to my announcement email list, send me an email (firstname.lastname@example.org) and I'll be glad to include you. I send a message about once every 1-3 weeks depending on what developments take place.
Transparency: Your donation, minus CrowdRise and credit card fees (7.9% in total), goes straight to Black Rock Church. As a registered non-profit, Black Rock issues annual reports detailing its financial status. Any funds received in excess will be used to pay for other members on the team and/or future missions trips.
You may have noticed that my fundraising goal has dropped. That's because we start with a rough estimate of what the trip will cost, and as things get closer and we finalize air fare, transportation and accommodations, the final numbers come together. My goal of $2,497 takes the 7.9% fee into account, from a base cost of $2,300 (goal = 2300 / (1-0.079)).
