Ryan Keith Bolinger Memorial Fund
Organized by: Alex Love
This fundraiser is for the succeeding family of Ryan Keith Bolinger, an unarmed man shot and killed by police in Des Moines, IA on June 9th, 2015. According to the Des Moines Register, Bolinger was driving a Lincoln sedan and pulled up next to the police cruiser of officer Ian Lawson who was conducting a traffic stop. Boliner then exited his vehicle and began dancing in the street. He reentered his vehicle and began driving at the speed limit. Officer Ian Lawson then began pursuing and was assisted in pursuiy by officer Vanessa Miller. On urbandale Ave Bolinger made a U-Turn, and Lawson parked in front of the vehicle and Miller parked a short distance behind Bolingers vehicle. He then exited his vehicle and began walking or "walking with a purpose" according to police, towards Millers squad car. At this point, Miller shot a round through her squad car window striking Bolinger in the torso. He was unarmed, had no criminal record, and was a husband and father of two with a third child on the way. At no point in time was any attempt made of using non-lethal force. Miller made no attempt to reposition the vehicle and use pepper spray or a tazer. In no way were any nonlethal means were exhausted before Miller deemed it appropriate to end this mans life. No warning, no attempt made to preserve life. This man was killed by police for dancing in the street and walking with a purpose. Or in other words, acting goofy and approaching a patrol car.
