BENEFITING: SAN FRANCISCO CITY IMPACT
EVENT DATE: Jan 02, 2014
It's 4:50 AM on December 2 and for whatever reason, I'm awake and realizing my birthday is in exactly one month. Without trying to make myself look better than I really am, I feel like the older that I get, the more that I feel like God is challenging me to make a greater impact with every moment of my life. I waste. A lot. I waste time, I waste money, I waste resources. But this year, I want to try something different. My desire is that my birthday wouldn't be one of waste, but one full of purpose. So if you were planning on getting me a gift of some kind, I'm asking that you don't waste time, energy, and effort to try and figure out what I want and just keep reading. If you weren't planning on spending money on me, then don't feel obligated to continue and have a great day!
In 2012, I visited SF City Impact for the first time, on a mission trip with my old church. In that first trip, God began to give me a burden for the Tenderloin District of San Francisco. I found that I would frequently think about the people that I met in conversations there. I would talk constantly about doing ministry in the Bay area and what it would take to get up there. I returned in April 2013 for another mission trip, which is when that photo above with John was taken. And now it has resulted in me picking up my entire life in the LA area, leaving all of my friends and family, and moving up to the Bay (sort of), where I am now serving in an awesome church that God has clearly called me to and where I can also stay connected to this ministry in the City as often as I can.
But why City Impact? They exist to intervene. They desire to bring Christ to a place steeped in evil and darkness. The people in the Tenderloin (well, all people) need Jesus and this ministry brings Jesus to people. They go to the homeless, to the poor, to the addicted, to the oppressed and simply preach the gospel while trying to meet real needs. Of course, the ministry isn't perfect. But I believe that they are good stewards of their God-given resources and I want to do my part with the time and resources that I have to bless and support them.
So again, if you were planning on giving me a gift this year, thanks! I love you and cherish our friendship together. And if you weren't planning on getting me anything, I still love you and want to thank you for taking the time to read through this and for allowing me to be a part of your life. Whoever you are, consider giving to this ministry to intervene on behalf of the people of the Tenderloin. I'm setting my goal at $1000 which, to be honest, is a lot and assumes that there are a lot of people that want to spend money on me. But it would be awesome if we could reach it or even surpass it together, so that the people in the Tenderloin could know and hear the good news about Christ.

"Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for youfrom the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’" - Matthew 25:34-40
