BENEFITING: TLC- the Treatment & Learning Centers, Inc.
EVENT DATE: Oct 31, 2010
HOURS PLEDGED: 100
I'm in training to run the Marine Corps Marathon on October 31, 2010 to benefit the kids of the Treatment and Learning Center in Rockville. For the past year, I have been volunteering at TLC and have seen this organization make a huge difference in the lives of children, who have various special needs including autism, learning disabilities, speech-language disorders, traumatic brain injuries, and many more. I know we have all been touched by a child who has special needs and this is the main reason why I'm making a commitment to help.
TLC is committed to serving everyone, regardless of their ability to pay. Accordingly, they will provide more than $275,000 in free services this year to support those less fortunate in our community. The bad economy has put pressure on just about everyone's budget and TLC is no different.
Each donation that is made will help TLC continue to provide free services to the less fortunate children who have learning disabilities. As one of the lucky parents who does not need any of TLC's services, I want to do my part in making sure that they can continue to make a difference in the lives of many. My goal is to raise $10,000. If I can get 100 people to give $100, then I'm there. If you can give more, please do; if you can't, then give what you can - EVERY LITTLE BIT HELPS.
As far as the race goes, I will not be setting any world speed records, but I will cross the finish line! Thanks so much for helping the kids of TLC. I truly appreciate it.
In 2010, TLC is celebrating their 60th anniversary of serving children and adults with special needs in the greater Washington, DC area. Today, TLC serves more than 2,100 individuals in our community through diagnostic, therapeutic, educational and employment programs in three Rockville area facilities. The individuals they serve have a wide range of special needs including but not limited to autism, learning disabilities, speech-language disorders, hearing loss, sensory integration disorders, ADD/ADHD, dyslexia, fine and gross motor skill delays, cognitive disabilities, and traumatic brain injuries. They support them across the life span to fulfill our mission of improving lives and expanding possibilities.
