Sabrina's Social Work Degree
Organized by: Laura Weibel
I know there are people with resources that care about the next generation and who appreciate good kids who want to make the world a better place. Our oldest son and all 3 daughters feel they have something to give to make a difference. I reach out as a parent who wants to give their children a chance to use their gifts and talents for others, but don't want them to suffer crippling debt in order to do it. Our family has an amazing daughter. She has a heart to help others and has been accepted into a 5 year program, having finished 2 years toward her Social Work degree. She will graduate with a Master's degree and certification as a social worker. She took a semester off to work 2 jobs to save for a car that will allow her to get a job near her campus and to help her pay toward her tuition and rent. As parents of four children, we have helped one son who is graduating from college this May. He wishes to continue with Medical School. We have 2 more daughters; one who wants to be a teacher and one who wants to work with animals. They will start college in 3 and 5 years. I have worked for non-profits all my life, helping to raise money for others. Unfortunately, that does not pay well. My husband was self-employed and we have very little retirement saved, and have been pulling out money to pay for tuition for all 4 children. In addition, I had a cancer scare and Sabrina had 2 concussions with complications several years ago. The medical bills are finally paid off, but money is drying up. My son will hopefully have enough money to pay off any tuition loans upon graduation as a doctor. Sabrina, however, as a social worker, helping others, will no doubt be paying loan debt off for decades. Our family has paid the first year our son and Sabrina, and have assisted as necessary hoping to keep their debt to a minimum. Both have worked hard since high school. Our youngest 2 have a paper route and baby sit and are saving now for college. We live within our means as much as possible, while helping the two older ones in college and we are sending our youngest to private school one more year, then both the younger girls will be in public high school. We believe in re-enforcing our Christian heritage through education at the primary level and have sold off family heirlooms to ensure they could go and get a good foundation. Your help will mean the difference for our family and especially for our daughter Sabrina as she pursues her goal to help others. She currently works in a nursing home and hopes to graduate in 3 years to be able to council people in hospitals, helping families cope with their medical situations, especially those involving children. Any and all gifts are appreciated more than know. We will continue to pray for all who take the time to read this. We hope that you will pray, if you can't give, that our children can use their gifts and talents to help others.
