BENEFITING: Family Services of Northeast Wisconsin, Inc.
One in three women will be raped or beaten in her lifetime. In the US, 44% of sexual assault victims are under age 18, and every 2 minutes another American is sexually assaulted. Victim blaming is incredibly the norm in the media and probably in the justice system. This is not a state of affairs that we should be silent about, or that we should be comfortable raising our children in. Because I believe that little things do make a difference, I am running the Door County Half Marathon to raise money for the Sexual Assault Center of Family Services of Door County. The center provides services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year for victims of sexual assault or abuse, and their families and friends. Services are confidential and free of charge. The Sexual Assault Center provides sensitive services to all victims regardless of their age, gender, race, sexual orientation, or disability. They also do community education which is incredibly important for raising awareness and creating a culture that does not accept violence and sexual assault. Last year they provided prevention education to over 11,000 youth! Thank you for joining me in support of this great community group by donating to my fundraising campaign!
