We are the Sacramento Youth Equestrian Academy. Our mission is to bring together children who have a desire to compete and bond with horses. Our students are either from a disadvantaged community or current/former foster children in Sacramento County. I started the Academy because of personal reasons. After seeing the trans-formative effect horses had on my then foster daughter with her severe anxiety. The constant shuffle foster children face typically makes it difficult to bond with anyone or thing or to feel empathy. Horses have an amazing way of reaching kids, reading emotions and listening without judgement. At the Academy, our students are assigned one horse in which they will spend time grooming and riding, things that subtly form a bond between horse and rider. Once students have gained confidence they are invited to participate with seasoned Associate Students in competition at local schooling shows. We aim to build a team and let out students know they are wanted and welcome. I also saw many children who marveled at riding but were unable to financially afford to lease much less own a horse. Horses come with many expenses, such as the vet, farrier, special nutritional needs and training. These can add up quickly. I believe and it is the belief of the Academy, that children in disadvantaged communities should not omitted from the riding experience. We offer free lessons and participation in out program to out targeted children. I reach out to you for your help to continue our mission to provide stability and a stable outlet for our students. We can make a huge difference in our student's lives.
