BENEFITING: SACRED HEART SCHOOL
EVENT DATE: Jun 07, 2013
Five years ago, my friend and coworker, Kristen Kullberg, started the Sacred Heart Jogging Club. I joined her 3 years ago. Each year, we challenge a group of 7th and 8th grade students at our school to train with us for a 5K. For most, this is their first time ever running. For all, it is their first time running 3.1 miles!
Over the past 5 years, the SHS jogging club has run various 5Ks in DC ranging from "Race for the Cure" to the "Save the Capital Cresent Trail run". We've loved the variety of big races and small, local races. This year, our students voted to attempt the "Run or Dye" 5K. It is similar to the very popular Color Runs.
Kristen and I debated if this was right for our group and we decided it was! Despite the registration fee, we think it will be an amazing and memorable experience for our kids. We hope that they start to understand that running can be fun! We also hope that they learn, like we have, that you really can accomplish anything you set your mind to.
Without letting the money hold us back, we've decided to go ahead and attempt this race. While the kids keep training, Kristen and I are going to furiously attempt to raise the money to cover the registration costs for the kids. If you, or anyone you know of, would like to sponsor a runner, please donate to this page! The cost for one runner is $45. We have 16 runners this year! Therefore, we're going to need a lot of money! :) Any money that is raised over our goal, will go towards next year's 5K!
