BENEFITING: SACRED SISTAHS INC
The mission of Sacred Sistahs, Inc. is to empower, serve, and improve the overall health, well-being, spirit, and vitality of African American and African women and children by nourishing and elevating the mind, body, and spirit. Sacred Sistahs, Inc., a 501c3 nonprofit organization, offers a variety of services. Since 2004, Sacred Sistahs, Inc. has served the community and provided mentorship to African American youth through annual seasonal signature events
The signature fall event includes a Fit-for-Fall Fitness event such as a walk-a-thon or marathon. This fall marks our 5th Annual Fitness event and first marathon.
For the past four winters we have honored 15 local Sheros and prominent women in the community at an awards/scholarship breakfast. Each of the young women who have completed the rites-of-passage program are also formally presented with a scholarship to college. This coming winter on Saturday, February 9, 2013, Sacred Sistahs will host its 5th Annual Shero Awards and Scholarship Fundraiser Breakfast.
Our Spring event includes the S.E.S.H.A.T. (Seeking Excellence in Science, Health, Arithmetic, and Technology) Program focuses on encouraging African American middle and high school girls to pursue careers with a math and science focus. We look forward to hosting our 3rd Annual Sacred Sistahs, Inc. S.E.S.H.A.T. Conference on Math and Science for coming up on April 20, 2013 at Harvey Mudd College, Claremont, CA. Sacred Sistahs also has the e=mc2 (Education is my conscious choice) program is designed to motivate elementary students to prepare for and pursue higher education through math and science.
Each Summer Sacred Sistahs conducts a Rites of Passage and Mentorship program designed to inspire, empower and promote self esteem, self concept, affirmation and to provide mentorship to young women through an ongoing process of nourishing and elevating the spirit, mind, and body. Topics include lessons on the role of women in shaping history, health and well-being including physical activities such as yoga, dance, and hiking, understanding the importance of following a healthy diet, perceptions of beauty, having a positive self image and valuing the body, relationships, leadership development, and college and life planning using vision boards.
In addition to each of the aforementioned activities, Sacred Sistahs maintains a strong connection with the community and partners with other organizations to support women and children such as with the Coalition Against Sexual Exploitation sponsored by the San Bernardino County District Attorney's Office, The Boys and Girls Club, local churches.
