BENEFITING: International Rescue Committee
I've been a bit stressed trying to figure out what to do for my birthday, but there are millions of people around the world trying to figure out how to keep their family safe through the next day.
"The International Rescue Committee responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people whose lives and livelihoods are shattered by conflict and disaster to survive, recover, and gain control of their future."
One of my best friends works for the IRC in DC and I've gotten to hear so many amazing stories about the people she works with, the work the IRC is doing , and the incredible differences they are able to make in helping people turn their lives around and start over. The people who come to the IRC have, in most cases, truly lost everything. They've been forced to give up their homes, to separate from their communities, and to leave behind everything they've ever known to move to places where they often know no one and do not speak the language.
The IRC does everything in their power to protect these people as they find their footing. They ease transitions, assist in finding housing, provide job training, and make sure that no one falls through the cracks. In addition to everything they do in the resettlement process, the IRC also aids in providing access to clean water, healthcare, education, financial services, counseling, and more to those in dire need around the world.
If you've got a few dollars to spare, please please send them here.
I cannot think of a better way to kick off 24 than by raising moeny for the IRC.
