Both Tim Heiks & Natalie Green are fundraising on this page. We are so grateful for any support you can offer as we work to help:
1) CONSERVATION: prevent elephants from getting snared & poached.
2) EDUCATION: schoolchildren eat and learn about how to protect the precious land & wildlife around them.
We will visit Zambia and these 2 Dazzle Africa programs in November 2016.
DAZZLE AFRICA wrote -
There's a special place in the world, in a little corner of the landlocked African nation of Zambia, called Mfuwe. The village lies next to the world-renowned South Luangwa National Park, a wildlife paradise where iconic animals like elephant, giraffe, lion, leopard, zebra, and countless others live. The people of Mfuwe and the wildlife nearby depend on each other. But they need help.
Did you know that education in Zambia isn't free (or paid with taxes) past 7th grade like it is in the United States? It is up to families to pay for school, and it isn't always possible , denying opportunity for education that would otherwise change the lives of so many kids.
Did you know that wildlife poachers are wiping out elephants and other iconic species at a faster rate than they are being born? It's possible that elephants could be extinct within our lifetime if wildlife crime continues to flourish.
YOU can help, though! Dazzle Africa, a U.S.-based nonprofit supports projects in Mfuwe that benefit kids and wildlife, and every year hosts a safari to bring people directly to the kids and the elephants (and lions, etc!)
2 projects that need immediate funding are:
1) 1/2 the salary of wildife veteranarian Dr. Mwamba Sichande. Dr. Sichande helps remove wire snares from countless animals each year that would otherwise die. Dazzle Africa pledged to employ a vet after a snared young bull elephant died near Dazzle's camp during a safari in 2012. There was no vet to rescue the elephant then. But there is now.
2) Hands Over Zambia:
Hands Over Zambia provides skills-based training to Mfuwe Secondary School teachers who will use the information to develop a new, self-sustaining, student-run Entrepreneurial Arts Class and Market. Market proceeds will fund the school’s lunch meal program that feeds 700 students every day (over 126,000 meals annually).
In Mfuwe, many students walk 10 miles to school each day, often on an empty stomach and unable to concentrate. For many, lunch is the only regular meal they receive. When the school lunch program started in 2014, student attendance in the afternoon sessions increased by a dramatic 40%. This project, developed per request from Mfuwe’s Headmaster, creates a stable program model to feed and educate students. Mfuwe Secondary School is the only school with a feeding program at the secondary level in the country of Zambia.
Help make a huge difference to kids and wildlife in Zambia. Contribute today to Education + Elephants. People and wildlife can live in harmony, especially with your help. Thanks!
