At the end of June, I will be running the Safaricom Lewa Marathon in Kenya, Africa to raise funds for Tusk Trust. Inspired by my big brother Ned (& his Blackrock Team), I will literally be following in his footsteps as we race together in this annual fundraising initiative that benefits wildlife conservation, education, healthcare and sustainable development in Africa.
I will be double matching contributions with twice the donation value in marketing and communications work to support Tusk's mission. Your gift of any amount will make a lasting difference for Kenya’s people and wildlife.
The Race: The 2014 Safaricom Marathon and Half Marathon will take place at the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, 140 miles north of Nairobi on Saturday 28th June, 2014. The Safaricom Marathon is regarded as one of the toughest endurance marathons in the world; however, runners of all abilities take part. It is run on a dirt jeep track, at 6,000 feet, and among an abundance of wildlife....lions, and tigers, and rhinos, oh my!
Tusk Trust: The impact of the event has been huge and the benefits are very tangible. Since its inception the event has raised US$4.2 million. Tusk and Lewa have always shared a common goal to use wildlife conservation as a catalyst to alleviate poverty, reduce conflict, and improve education and livelihoods in rural areas rich in biodiversity. As such, the funds raised from this event are invested in a wide range of projects benefiting sustainable development, education, healthcare, and wildlife. The Charity, whose Royal Patron is Prince William, focuses on the protection of endangered species and habitats, construction of schools, implementation of water projects and improving livelihoods through the creation of nature-based enterprise. Tusk is highly efficient in delivering donor funds with the maximum possible impact. See www.tuskusa.com for more info.
