Exciting news!

Hey all! Thank you for your continued support...we have some exciting news coming your way! Unfortunately, we need to cement some details before  See more

THE STORY:

Imagine the moment your five-year-old son is diagnosed with cancer. Terror, shock, disbelief… Then the focus shifts to battling for your child’s life and focusing on bringing your baby home. Then, as if things aren’t nightmarish enough - you find out your home isn’t safe and you don’t have the money to fix it.

For Brody Miller and his parents this has been the reality for over a year. The Yamhill, Oregon family was preparing for Brody to begin kindergarten when their life was derailed. Brody was diagnosed with Acute T- Cell Leukemia. At the same time, a contractor delivered more devastating news: water leaks they were having repaired were far more extensive than they could have imagined. The leaks had destroyed most of the interior walls, ceilings and flooring.  On top of that, they found extensive evidence of black mold – the worst case scenario for a child with a compromised immune system.

The Miller’s exhausted their budget repairing the exterior of the home, leaving nothing left to address the interior damage.

Fast forward one year: Brody has a feeding tube that delivers nutrients and medications. He receives chemotherapy through the tube and through an IV port in his chest. He also receives spinal injections of chemotherapy and frequently needs blood transfusions due to low platelet counts. He has started school but spends a lot of time in the hospital for treatment. Brody's dad, AJ, is a farrier by trade and also volunteers as a reserve officer with the Yamhill Police Department; his mom, Cassylou, was forced to quit her job to care for Brody and maintain his treatment schedule – which includes chemotherapy extending into 2019.

The Miller’s have received love and support from friends, family and their community to repair the walls and floors in the two bedrooms – but the remainder of the home is uninhabitable for Brody. Imagine bringing your boy home – and he is confined to his room.

The McMinnville Chamber of Commerce Leadership Class of 2017 has joined the partnership of efforts by the Willamette Valley Cancer Foundation and the See Ya Later Foundation to help Brody and his parents. We are community members, employees, business owners, parents, kids, cancer survivors and everyday people. We want to help this family. We want to make a difference and create a positive ripple of change for the community.

Our mission is to raise $8100 to replace damaged kitchen cabinets and install a ductless heat pump in the Miller home. The See Ya Later Foundation and Willamette Valley Cancer Foundation have committed separate funds to address other essential repairs needed within the home and McMinnville based Wilson’s Carpet One has committed to provide all of the flooring and labor needed. If we exceed our initial goal the remaining funds will go toward the remaining repairs list.

This is where you come in! The MACC Leadership Class of 2017 is privileged to have a role in making a difference for the Millers. Please join our team of amazing community partners to give Brody back his home!

Primary Fund Raising Goals & Objectives - $8,100

Warmth  - HVAC/Ductless Heat Pump: $2,100

  • Brody’s home is in dire need of an upgrade to the existing HVAC system especially as we go into winter. A warm and safe environment is a necessity to help Brody get through this challenging time.

Health & Functionality - Kitchen Cabinets: $4,000

  • The existing cabinets suffered water damage and exacerbated the mold situation. Can you imagine not being able to go into your own kitchen and grab a snack or drink because it could harm you?

Utility & Efficiency - Kitchen Appliances: $2,000

  • Even without the health ramifications from the mold/moisture exposure, the family’s appliances are outdated and inefficient. Functional and efficient appliances will aid the Miller’s as they care for Brody, and reduce their ongoing utility expenses.

Secondary Fund Raising Goals & Objectives

Assuming we reach our initial goal of $8,100, any funds over and above that amount, would be put towards the projects below.

  • New Plumbing
  • New Electrical Panels and Misc. Repairs
  • Lighting Fixtures
  • Interior Paint (Living and Dining Rooms)
  • Bathroom (new tub/shower & vanity/sink/faucet)
  • Disconnect and Reinstall Fireplace
  • Sheet-rock Repair and Replacement
