THE STORY:

Please accept our heartfelt wishes for a Thanksgiving filled with abundant love and gratitude. We count our community among our greatest blessings and as we approach our 40th anniversary in June 2018, we hope you will consider making SAFE in Hunterdon your charity of choice for year-end giving. Thank you to all the individuals and businesses that have given their time, talents, goods and financial contributions in the past.  In fact, last year 497 volunteers contributed over 10,000 hours of service and our annual appeal grew from $23,700 in 2014 to almost $100,000 in 2017. You have greatly enriched the lives of victims of domestic violence and sexual assault by making hope, help and healing possible.
This year your contributions have helped us to provide the following services to date free of charge by our highly-qualified dedicated professional staff and trained volunteers:

  • 1,205 bed nights at our safe house to women and children in imminent danger
  • 1,840 group and individual counseling and creative arts therapy sessions to survivors ages 3 and up
  • 424 legal services related contacts by our own Counsel for Victim Services and legal advocacy staff
  • 1,792 hotline calls answered to provide support, resources and information

This has been another banner year of major accomplishments.  We opened a new Child and Adolescent Services Department which includes group and individual counseling for 3-18 year olds, creative arts therapy, parenting programs and prevention programs in our high schools.  We now provide legal advocacy to victims in municipal courts, as well as in superior court, and we are focusing on increasing access to our services for those with disabilities.  Our main office is now ADA accessible, as is our safe house, and we will be working with a national organization, the Vera Institute, to further address necessary accommodations in all our programs for those with functional deficits and mobility impairments.
We cannot continue to do so without your ongoing support and there are many ways you can give.  The true measure of Thanksgiving is not just in counting our blessings but how we use them. Enclosed is a return envelope for your convenience and a wish list of needed items for your reference should you prefer to donate a specific item.

Our ability to help others relies on the generosity of people like you.  Thank you so much for your kind consideration.  Best wishes for a happy Thanksgiving from our house to yours. May your home be filled with peace this holiday season and the company of those you love most.
