EVENT: REFUSE TO ABUSE 5K 2014
Thanks for clicking on the link!
As many of you know, I was recently on a jury for a horrible court case involving Domestic Violence. A sentence was handed out in that case that was a little different than what I expected. The punishment didn’t come close to fitting the crime.
But that wasn’t my first up close and personal look into the world of Domestic Violence. My mom was also a victim. I witnessed a lot of abuse as a kid (which potentially explains a lot, but that’s a discussion for another day). Several of my friends have also been victims of DV. Fortunately for them, they got out early. Some aren’t so lucky. For example, did you know that more than 70 people died as a result of Domestic Violence in WA state alone in the last 2 years? More horrible stats can be found here:
Sadly, I think the chances are good that we all know someone that has been a victim of Domestic Violence. We can’t change the past. But we can try to help current & future victims by raising awareness of the problem, advocating for better solutions and helping people that need a way out. That’s what the WSCADV does.
I would very much appreciate it if you could donate whatever amount is comfortable for you. I've hidden the dollar amounts that display here when you make a donation. That way, every donation will be appreciated equally :)
Don't forget that the company you work for may also match any donations you make, so your gift has twice the impact!
