Over the course of three days (Jan. 6th-9th), this Salem family received 3 flagrant, racist, death threats-- each escalating from the note prior. These messages were left in their front door mail slot, on their front porch and on their car; at various times of day. The notes made it clear that this person is watching their family, and knows their routines. Please help us find them safe housing.
UPDATE: A local family has offered their rental property as a permanent home for relocation within the next week or two. The family is expecting some additional upfront costs and has lost income during their dislocation. On their behalf, we are increasing the fundraising amount to address these ongoing needs and through their move into a safe home.
FROM THE FAMILY: Thank you for the outpouring of support and messages of encouragement and love, which serve as reminders of the goodness in people despite this experience of racist hatred. I am the mother in this situation and I wanted to personally thank you because you have helped make it possible for us to be in a safe place, and I hope this can bring awareness not only to my situation but to the community as a whole.
"As my sufferings mounted I soon realized that there were two ways in which I could respond to my situation -- either to react with bitterness or seek to transform the suffering into a creative force. I decided to follow the latter course." ~ Martin Luther King Jr.
