ALMOST THERE!!! SAFE PASSAGE DONORS ARE INCREDIBLE!!!

BENEFITING: Safe Passage Inc
Nearing 20 years of service to more than 10,000 survivors of abuse.
NOW MORE THAN EVER…Our direct support to survivors of domestic violence has grown more than 133% in the past five years. Our emergency shelter has been at capacity for most of that period with 475 children living and learning with us in safety and peace - often for the first time in their lives.
Imagine these lives if the resources and support of Safe Passage had not been available.
We need your help, NOW MORE THAN EVER, to make much needed repairs and expansion of client services and space in our shelter. YOU and the funding support of the Allstate Purple Purse Campaign can help Safe Passage continue to provide these life-saving resources until the violence ends.
We take great pride at being so much more than a shelter, from our award winning Prevention and children’s programs to our comprehensive in-shelter and outreach programs. We proudly provide “trauma informed” care that offers Help, Healing, and Hope to all of the women and children that are in our care.
How we HELP
“I don’t know how I could have possibly made it this far without your support, It has been a time not only of trying to get into a safe living situation but a time of reevaluation of my purpose in life and my purpose in being in this community. When I first went to Safe Passage to get counseling I did not understand what domestic violence was. I didn’t think that it was describing me because I didn’t have bruises and my kids only had bruised bottoms from “discipline.” You helped me understand that there was so much more to domestic violence and abuse and that I didn’t have to let it continue. If you wouldn’t have done that I fear where I would be now. At the time we met I was slowly dying each day. I was barely a shell of the woman I had been when I had gotten married.” – Former client
How we HEAL
The women who come to Safe Passage have been deeply hurt by those closest to them – spouses, significant others, mothers, fathers, siblings. For many, the trauma began early in life. While with us, we begin the process of restoring their inner selves so they can have peace, joy, and long-term success and stability. Safe Passage programming focusses on providing women with support, guidance, and space that promotes healing from within; our holistic components include: individual counseling, guided meditations, journaling group, support group, and classes on how to manage anxiety – all which enable them to explore the depth of their pain and sadness, a critical step to rebuilding. They rediscover their goals, interest, hopes and dreams. They begin to see they are more than the degrading words that for so long defined them. As women stay with us, we begin to see the transformation from weakness to strength; self-doubt to confidence, sadness to joy; feelings of hopelessness to empowerment. – Erin Ortiz, MSW, Program and Evaluation Director
How we HOPE
This week, quite by chance, I ran into the first woman that Safe Passage helped to free from years of oppression and abuse. At that time, I didn’t really know her, although she sat in the pew behind me at church nearly every week, She never made eye contact and spoke only briefly in a voice barely above a whisper. I could not have known what she was living with, but someone else in the community did, and became a bridge of hope for this woman and her children. Today, she is a person who exudes peace and happiness. In a still soft voice she tells me that she, her children, and now grandchildren are successful, well, and very grateful.
Nearly 20 years ago, three women had a vision of hope that anyone in Southeast Indiana living in the shadows of domestic violence could find safety and a chance at a better life. That vision has been realized for over 10,000 individuals. Today, my vision is that together, we eliminate violence in our communities. My heart is filled with hope that by all of us working together, this can be achieved – Jane Yorn, Executive Director
