Safe Wheels for Ali
Organized by: Emma Moise
Ali Rae is by far the most caring, amazing, hard working, unselfish, creative person I know. She gives tirelessly to the Hip Hop Kidz program to help us be our best in dance and in life. We see her in our weekly dance class, but she works around the clock for us, choreographing routines, creating our mixes, and working on logistics for performances. Ali is the type of person who will go out of her way to help others, but will never ask for help for herself. Last weekend she drove almost an hour to my house to help me and I discovered that her car is in a really bad condition. I had no idea just how unsafe her car is for her to drive. She has to enter and exit from the passenger's side because the driver's side door handle is broken. The back bumper is taped on. The tires are worn and one of the tires was a spare tire. Her car is frequently in the shop costing her a lot in repairs, keeping her in a vicious loop of not getting ahead. I am very worried that something will happen to Ali while she is driving her car. Ali is not a quitter. She is persistent and never gives up. During the times when her car broke down, she still never missed a class, workshop or performance, even though it sometimes took her two hours and four bus transfers and the metrorail to get there. She is the utmost professional. Ali is a college student studying Early Childhood Education, but had to take this term off because of her car situation. She is an extremely dedicated and hard-working dance teacher who not only inspires her dancers, but also the thousands of kids she has her dance groups perform for at community and charity events. She helps children express themselves through dance and fosters a culture of hope. She encourages everyone to follow their dreams no matter where they come from or what their situation is. Along with teaching dance, she teaches life skills and values that are necessary for success in life. Ali could easily give up, but she doesn't. She is a role model and truly exemplifies that hard work pays off. Now we would like to reward her for her hard work and help her achieve her dreams. Most importantly, we would like to get her a car that is safer for her, Ali is much to valuable to risk losing.
