Our presence is dedicated to the incredible spirit and everlasting memory of our precious and beloved Son, Sage Edward Jackson Schermerhorn who was born March 31st 2016 and passed on June 25th 2016 at Children's Hospital in Boston. Sage was born with an extremely rare and devastating Arteriovenous Malformation in his brain. Conditions such as Sage's are extremely rare and each presentation is both unique and unpredictable. Though amazing knowledge has been gained in recent years, the unknowns involved in the behavior and cause of these vascular malformations are staggering. There are many recent developments in both theory and technology which if given proper funding, could certainly offer children like Sage a very real chance at survival. In comparison to well known and more widely experienced conditions as heart disease and cancer, these new devices and treatment applications will potentially save far less people and as a result these programs have an unacceptably hard time gathering funding from large institutions. Our life's work as Sage's family, to honor him and his profound impact on everyone who knew him, is to aid these developments in every way we can and give to those who shared Sage's life with us, who worked so selflessly and tirelessly to help him and understand his condition, who we are endlessly grateful for. The doctors who are at the forefront of research and treatment for these malformations and rare conditions, specifically Dr. Darren Orbach and Dr. Edward Smith at The Center for Cerebrovascular Surgery and Interventions at Children's Hospital, are in dire need of funding to further their work. Please Join us in remembering our Son, and in helping to further the boundaries of what medicine can offer those affected by Arteriovenous Malformations, and other rare Cerebrovascular conditions.
