Sagwan Tanauan Dragon Boat Project
Organized by: Danny Yambao
I am a native of Tanauan, Batangas. A friend and I were brainstorming ideas to introduce ecotourism to the shores of Wawa/Boot, Tanauan (now referred to as La Playa de Tanauan). We thought that introducing Dragon Boat Racing to the area would facilitate this idea.
In December of 2013 the Sagwan Tanauan Dragon Boat Team was born. The 26 high school children who make up the team underwent only 5 months of training before competing against veteran paddlers in the 2014 Philippine National Games. The team placed in the top five teams in several categories and have shown great promise for continued success.
Providing an extracurricular activity for these high school children has been one of the most inspring
To further improve the team's performance, we need to have our own equipment to include: 4 championship caliber dragon boats, 6 tri-yaks, and various other equipment for use in training and competition. Through previous donations, we have been able to acquire 2 long championship boats though a sizable portion of the funds used was loaned.
All funds raised will go to support the Sagwan Tanauan Dragon Boat Team by repaying the loan for the purchase of the 2 long championship boats as well as acquiring the remaining above mentioned equipment. Funds will also go toward providing transportation, food, and expenses related to the team's training and competition.
