I currently have a Sallie Mae loan for $37,000. My interest rate is near 10%. I currently pay $440.00 a month and $300 goes to interest, the other $140 goes to my principal. As you can see, at this rate, I will never pay it off. I cannot declare bankruptcy on it and when I have talked to the reps there, they are unable to reduce my interest rate or monthly payments. I asked them about the student loan forgiveness Obama has signed, and they said I am not elibible for that because it is a private loan and not a federal loan. They said I am bound to this loan and the amount I owe every month until it is paid off.

I would appreciate all the help I can get. I feel like I am being completely taken advantage of and I am backed in the corner with no where to turn and with only really two options.

1) Pay loans and be struggling my entire life.
2) Stop paying loans and be garnished.

The only way I feel my family and I can get through this, is with the help from others... so here I am reaching out trying to get support. Any help would be appreciated as it is that much closer to my families goal.
