Sally is OVER 38 MILES DONE!!
May 01, 2016
BENEFITING: B CURED
EVENT DATE: May 01, 2016
On the first day of brain cancer awareness month, Sunday, May 1, 2016, Sally Maloney Duval will run 50 miles in and around Greenwich, CT to fundraise for B*CURED (www.bcured.org). She will begin at Cos Cob Park and complete 3 17.5 mile loops around Greenwich, RIverside and Old Greenwich with breaks at Cos Cob Park. Please meet us at 3:00PM to celebrate her finish in Cos Cob Park.
Committed to ultra marathons, Sally's 50 mile run is actually a "training" run for her 3rd 100 mile run in June 2016. In August 2015, Sally finished The infamous Leadville 100 Mile Trail Run in under 27 hours for B*CURED. She also completed the Vermont 100 in July of 2014.
B*CURED's mission is to end brain cancer by raising awareness and funding innovative research through its grant program. Sally continues to run for B*CURED after losing her uncle to brain cancer and watching two close friends lose their moms to brain cancer. Since then her own peers have faced the illness.
Coined Sally's 50 (miles) for 50 (bucks), Sally is hoping to raise as many $50 flat donations as possible to award a research grant in 2016.
Every day 550 people in the US will be diagnosed with a brain tumor and because there are 120 different types and because it is the brain, it can be complicated to treat. Survival rates from brain cancer are depressingly low. B*CURED aims to change this story by providing grants to innovative scientific research at leading medical institutions like Memorial Sloan-Kettering, Yale, Columbia, Mass General, and more. In nine years, 14 research grants have been awarded.
B*CURED is an all volunteer organization led by co-presidents Karena Bailey and Kristin Duda in Greenwich, CT. It was founded in 2008 by Melissa Salame and Debbie Needle. All donations go directly to the cause. Visit us at www.bcured.org to learn more and to get involved!
