My teammates are current students enrolled at the School of Continuing Education at Providence College. As part of the final steps in graduating from the Bachelor of Arts Leadership Development program, we have for our “leading teams” project decided to put together a fundraising event that brings awareness to the Global, National and Local crisis that is suicide. Every year, nearly one million people die from suicide; a “global” mortality rate of 16 per 100,000, or one death every 40 secs. In the United States, it is the tenth leading cause of death, accounting for 34,598 deaths. Here in Rhode Island, suicide, death by self-harm, is the leading cause of intentional injury death. Statewide, there are more than twice as many suicides as homicides. This cause is important to our team because, it has touched each of us in one way or another. Whether, from a family member, friend, or colleague we have all experienced first-hand the tragedy that is suicide. Our goal is to not only raise awareness to the global, national, and local crisis that is suicide, but also raise (insert dollar amount?) so that we may donate these funds to, “The Samaritans of Rhode Island,” a statewide, independent, non-profit, non-religious, philanthropic organization that is dedicated to have a suicide free Rhode Island. You can help us achieve our teams goal to raise awareness and funds to support this organizations efforts to make Rhode Island a state free of suicide. Your support is key to the solving of this crisis. We thank you in advance for your support! Your donation is greatly appreciated and will be used to raise awareness and help prevent suicide within our state, and local communities.
