Daddy was diagnosed with Pulmonary Hypertension in 2011 while recovering from open heart surgery. PH affects your lungs and breathing which in turn affects your ability to do pretty much everything. It is a "zebra" disease, meaning that it is fairly rare. Often misdiagnosed as COPD or asthma, many people don't look sick and are treated as if it's all in their head. In daddy's case, he saw numerous doctors and was told they could find no reason why he had to take 2 breaks while climbing 13 stairs. Finally unable to breathe, he went to the ER (again) had nearly 15lbs of fluid drained from his lungs and a doctor finally diagnosed him with Pulmonary Hypertension. He was drowning in his own body. Today, with the help of oxygen and a cocktail of meds, he is able to be semi-active. Many PH patients are not as lucky. PH left undiagnosed and untreated results in death. There is currently no cure for PH. Help us find research to change this!
