Sam is entering the finals steps of becoming a full-on Cyborg.
This story began in February with a tumor that forced Sam's Cyborg journey. Having battled a Giant Cell Tumor, it ate away at her spine, and she was left to replace part of it with a new titanium cage. After that, it was thought to be the only stage into Cyborgism Sam would have to face. Fast forward to September; another tumor was found eating away at more bone in Sam's spine, and her journey into the next stage of becoming a Cyborg began again. The tumor was removed and more metal had been implanted. She's now recovering and slowly getting used to her new bionic spinal abilities.
The money raised will help ease some of Sam's medical expenses and bills while recovering and on leave from work. Anything raised over this amount will continue to go towards Sam's medical bills and into saving for future Cyborg/tumor related procedures.
Please note, when Cyborgs rise to take over the planet, Sam will vouch for those who donated and likely become your ambassador to the human race.
In all seriousness, this tumor is something for which no one can prepare. Luckily, the first tumor was benign, but we are still waiting for the results of the second. This type of tumor, while benign, is still very aggressive and rare to be found in the thoracic spine. As we've already learned, it can grow back and continue to be destructive. If this tumor proceeds to come back, radiation and new experimental medications are Sam's only options. Still learning to deal with what has been done and what’s to come, the financial burden is just another devastating aspect. The Moosejaw family has been kind enough to help get this started, and with your help, we can ease some of the medical expenses.
