“You are our letter, written in our hearts, known and read by all men; being manifested that you are a letter of Christ, cared for by us, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.” 2 Corinthians 3:2-3 It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Sam Day. Sam was a miracle from the day he was born, full of life and joy and courage. His true, amazing character manifested itself as he fought his devastating disease. Undaunted by the limitations his cancer tried to set, Sam pressed on, living life to the fullest and teaching each of us how to persevere in every circumstance. On Friday, August 19th, Sam was taken to the emergency room when he was struggling to catch his breath. After two surgeries over the next four days to try to clear his chest and allow him to breath easier, Sam had significant pain and discomfort. On Wednesday, Sam found sudden relief and told his parents that his pain was gone. “I just wanted you guys to know that I’m not in pain any more.” The release from the pain and discomfort was a true gift in Sam’s final days. It allowed Sam to set the tone for family and friends, which included laughter, teasing, sharing stories and his faith. We rejoice with Sam and lift up his loved ones in prayer. May God bring comfort, blessing and sweet memories to his family and friends until they see him again. We will continue to fight Ewing sarcoma in Sam’s honor with the hope that a life-giving treatment will be found soon.
