BENEFITING: Samaritan Hospice
EVENT DATE: Nov 03, 2013
After a long battle with breast cancer our Aunt Donna passed away in January. During her battle she was put in hospice twice. The cancer had spread and affected her liver.
The first time she was told she was going in to hospice till she got stronger not knowing she was being sent home to die. She fought and got stronger but when we needed to find out what her ammonia levels were she was not aloud to get a blood test because that would be considered life saving. Despite being sent home to die she still got stronger and came out of hospice (We’re Coming Out!). She got strong enough to get more chemo. Her second time in hospice she went into Samaritan Healthcare & Hospice home care.
My Uncle Joe was Aunt D’s primary care with a lot of help from his sister and her wife. My uncle said that he was impressed by Samaritan Healthcare and they even gave her blood tests. My uncle had good insurance but told me that Samaritan Healthcare doesn’t turn anyone away.
I am running the New York Marathon Nov. 3rd and will be raising money for people in similar situation that my Aunt and Uncle were in but have a lack of insurance. Any amount would help. Thank you.
