THE STORY:

Hello, Friends and Family!

Samaritan House is participating in the Allstate Purple Purse Challenge as part of our fundraising and outreach activities during October - Domestic Violence Awareness Month. I am asking for your help, please, to make our fundraiser a success.

For every dollar you donate during October, Samaritan House has the opportunity to leverage matching grant dollars from the Allstate Foundation. There are on-going, weekly challenges throughout the month, which will bring us additional dollars.

Why support Samaritan House?

Your generosity will allow us to serve more than 700 persons experiencing domestic violence annually with victim advocacy (court accompaniment, safety planning, crisis hotline and community referrals), emergency housing, and other support services. Our agency also provides contracted mental health counseling for adults and children who have been traumatized by family violence to help begin the healing process.

Samaritan House advocates on behalf of and serves ALL individuals experiencing abuse and their families including underserved populations --  the LGBTQ community, human trafficking victims, older adults and male victims of violence. Also, we serve clients without respect to geographic boundaries, and many come to us from communities outside the City of Virginia Beach, including out-of-state.

One final word....

Chances are you may know someone who is experiencing domestic violence, but the greater chance is that you have no idea that she or he is in crisis. That has been my personal experience, and I have sometimes felt at a loss as to how to help when a friend or loved one discloses abuse.

Please consider visiting our website at www.samaritanhouseva.org to learn ways that you can help unmask domestic violence in your community.

Thank you my friends for considering a gift in any amount - $10, $25, $50, $100, or $1,000 or more- whatever you can give will help Samaritan House advocates provide safety, support and compassion to people experiencing domestic violence.

Peace -

Melissa
