Sammy Miller was teaching some students in his classroom in suburban Atlanta on October 15, 2014 when he had a massive heart attack. Sammy's heart stopped as did his breathing. Thanks to the quick actions of the students in calling 911 and his fellow teachers in giving him CPR and using a portable defibrillator, Sammy survived the initial event. After being life flighted to a local hospital, Sammy is fighting for his life in the ICU.
God willing, Sammy Miller will leave the hospital in Atlanta with his wife and young son. No matter what happens, his family will face the harsh reality of unexpected hospital bills.
While Sammy does have sick-time he can take from work, we all know that teachers only get so much leave. When that runs-out, his family will be facing the reality of having no income. Sammy's wife has a part-time job and the rest of her time is spent taking care of their 2-year-old son.
Sammy and Jennifer didn't ask for this fundraiser - if you know them you know they never would. They would rather give than receive. This fundraiser came in response to the requests of people asking "how can I help?".
The money received will go directly to Sammy and Jennifer (crowdrise takes 1% on average as a processing fee but may take up to 8%). We expect they will use it for medical expenses, utility/mortgage, food, gas the other pressing needs that come with tragedies like this.
