THE STORY:

From Robert: Sammy is now at the Shepherd Center, a world-class medical facility that specializes in brain and spinal injury rehab here in Atlanta. Jenn went home for the night to be with Nate but will be back up tomorrow. The doctors and nurses want to start rehab with Sammy on Monday and believe he will be off the ventilator before then. He actually spent most of the day off the vent but with s...ome help oxygen support through the trach.

What a praise to God that Sammy was approved to go to this facility and that it is in Atlanta. What a praise that Sammy was in good enough condition to go there - they must think he has a good chance at recovering . Thank God he will be moving off that vent soon. Do pray for his rehab. There was one instance today when Sammy wasn't able to press the nurse call button and that was frustrating. Everything else, the whole process of leaving the hospital, riding in the ambulance, and checking in to the Shepherd Center, he was alert and cognizant of. Answering "yes" "no" questions. What a Joy that our friend is where he is and on the road to recovery. Two weeks ago it was "total organ failure." Ha! God is great and good.

Sammy Miller was teaching some students in his classroom in suburban Atlanta on October 15, 2014 when he had a massive heart attack. Sammy's heart stopped as did his breathing. Thanks to the quick actions of the students in calling 911 and his fellow teachers in giving him CPR and using a portable defibrillator, Sammy survived the initial event. After being life flighted to a local hospital, Sammy was fighting for his life in the ICU. (Now moved to CCU)

God willing, Sammy Miller will leave the hospital in Atlanta with his wife and young son. No matter what happens, his family will face the harsh reality of unexpected hospital bills.

While Sammy does have sick-time he can take from work, we all know that teachers only get so much leave. When that runs-out, his family will be facing the reality of having no income. Sammy's wife has a part-time job and the rest of her time is spent taking care of their 2-year-old son.

Sammy and Jennifer didn't ask for this fundraiser - if you know them you know they never would. They would rather give than receive. This fundraiser came in response to the requests of people asking "how can I help?".

The money received will go directly to Sammy and Jennifer. We expect they will use it for medical expenses, utility/mortgage, food, gas and the other pressing needs that come with tragedies like this.
