EVENT DATE: Apr 01, 2014
Over the years, ECR Serves has found an incredible organization that continues to inspire - Sammy's House. Being a true not for profit organization, they find themselves in need of many maintenance essentials and unfortunately are not able to address the issues, due to lack of funding. Many of these needs are safety and health necessities for the children. Seeing what an incredible gift Sammy's House is to so many families, we feel that aiding in these essential adjustments will truly help to make this house a safer home.
All funds will go toward replacing the fence that surrounds the children’s outdoor play area. With the current fence, the kids have been slipping through and climbing over using the chain links. This is the number one concern for Sammy's House and we can’t wait to help them create a safer place for the kids!
Sammy's House started out in 1999 as a home-based child care center in Austin, Texas that served four infants and toddlers who were medically fragile. The overwhelming response from parents and therapeutic professionals made it apparent that there was a pressing need for this type of care in central Texas. To help meet this need, a group of families and concerned professionals came together to form a nonprofit organization and develop a service model, then began making plans to establish a larger, centrally located center that could serve more families. This new nonprofit – what became Sammy’s House – opened a child development program in March 2002. Following this, its respite care program began in 2003, and then its therapeutic equipment loaning program began in 2004. These three programs remain the foundation of the center's operations.
