BENEFITING: Achilles International Inc.
EVENT DATE: Nov 06, 2016
I just signed up for the TCS New York City Marathon! Not only will I be training like crazy for my run, but all of the money that I raise for doing so will be in support of Achilles International. Achilles is a nonprofit organization that enables people with all types of disabilities to participate in mainstream athletics. They concentrate on road races, but also host a kids program, Freedom Team of Wounded Veterans, and many adaptive running clubs around the world. As a runner and special educator, I was naturally drawn to this organization. Having worked closely with many people with all types of disabilities, I have found that it is crucial everyone has a chance to do something that makes them feel good. Achilles is a great charity because it helps all people participate in athletics, something that has helped me more times than I could count. Achilles promotes personal achievement which enhances athlete's self esteem and lower barriers for living a fulfilling life. I'm reaching out to everyone I know to help raise $3,000 for this cause. Any amount you can give is greatly appreciated, and a step closer towards my goal! Please join me in sharing the wonderful sport of running with all types of athletes.
