THE STORY:
Since I was fourteen years old I have dreamed of running the New York City Marathon one day...well, here I am eight years later training to do so. But what makes this time so special is I am not just running it for myself anymore. I am running it for the countless number of lives lost to gun related violence who can no longer achieve their hopes and dreams like I am. I am taking on the 26.2 miles specifically for the 26 lives lost in Sandy Hook in 2012...a cause that is not only close to my heart but also close to my home.
Sandy Hook Promise is a national non-profit organization founded and led by several family members whose loved ones were killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012. Our Mission: Prevent gun-related deaths due to crime, suicide and accidental discharge so that no other parent experiences the senseless, horrific loss of their child.
Based in Newtown, Connecticut, our intent is to honor all victims of gun violence by turning our tragedy into a moment of transformation by providing programs and practices that protect children from gun violence.
By uniting people of all beliefs and backgrounds who value the protection of children to take meaningful actions in their homes and communities, we will prevent gun violence and stop the tragic loss of life.
December 14th 2012 is a day that will forever be engraved in my mind. A day that changed my life and many other lives forever. I am hoping to make November 6th 2016 a day that will change my life and many other lives as well, but for the better. Please consider helping me on this monumentus journey.
