BENEFITING: ADOPT A HOUSE
- ,Our home like many others has been destroyed by Sandy, just after finishing repairs from Irene. It has been a long 6 months, and today we are no closer to coming back to our home as we were back in October. The house was substantially damaged including structure . We have lost all of our belongings, including clothing, bedding, appliances, pots, pans, dishes, heating, electric, and much more.,Our water pipes and main have burst. In addition we have damage to outdoor decks landscape etc which is not covered by insurance. We had insurance, but they will not pay us what we need to repair, they gave us half of our contractors estimate.s FEMA had denied us any help. The house has mold, sewage, oil, and gasoline within it as well as our property. The money that we are getting is being spent on things necessary to make the house a safe, healty place. These expenses includecleanup,, structure repairs, engineers, surveyor etc. thus leaving us with not enough to rebuild and replace items that were lost. Do to the extent of the damage, it is now necessary to elevate the house with a cost of $100,000 plus, we will get $30,000 from our insurance towards this. Our savings are gone thru, as we are still making mortgage, taxes and insurance payments on this home, while expenses for a rental home. During this time, our daughter has become ill, and the medical expenses are building up as well. We are not looking to improve what we had, just to get back what we had, a safe ,healthy loving home with all of us under one roof. We are displaced and do not see in our future when and how we will be able to get back home. We have always been the ones to help and lend a hand. Being on the other side now, and needing help ,it is a hard thing to do.
