BENEFITING: SAPNA NYC INC
2015 is almost over but it’s not too late to make a difference by making a year-end donation to Sapna NYC!
Help us reach our goal to raise $3,000 by December 31st!
Why Sapna? The Bronx is home to the fastest growing immigrant population in New York City—Bangladeshi and Pakistani immigrants. Despite the growing numbers and high needs of this community, Sapna NYC is the only South Asian focused nonprofit serving the South Asian community in the Bronx.
What Will My Donation Go Towards? In 2016, Sapna hopes to expand its English as a Second Language (ESL) program. And we need your help to do it! Our work focuses on meeting the needs of women and families. The first obstacle our members face is their lack of English language skills which prevent them from gaining employment and which makes it difficult for them to negotiate city life in their new home. We have long waiting lists and very few resources for our ESL program. Our ESL program focuses on empowering women by providing them with Basic English language skills and other important skills. We incorporate financial literacy and workshops on public assistance, parent advocacy, and life in America.
In 2016, Sapna NYC would like to purchase in-house textbooks for our students to use during class to help facilitate learning. We would also like to buy workbooks to further initiate the learning process. Women are eager to participate and to learn! We would like to accommodate their motivation and help them become fluent in English so they can gain employment and economic opportunity.
