Thanks for visiting my page and for supporting iMentor. iMentor is a really amazing nonprofit which pairs professionals in NYC with low-income high school students throughout the city. The program's goal is to help get kids to and succeed in college, and to offer them support during their first year away from home. As a mentor, I (Sara) meet with my mentee, Anisa, regularly to prepare for college, to discuss high school, to talk about her future, etc. She is an incredible, motivated kid- a recent immigrant from Tajikistan who taught herself English and dreams of becoming a doctor or nurse (or PA!)- and I've come to value our friendship probably even more than she does.
On November 22, 2014 I will be participating in the iMentor Classic: 3v3 Coed Basketball Tournament, and am also on the board for organizing the event. My team and I are playing to raise awareness and funds to support iMentor, and are hoping to at least not break any bones or tear any ACLs in the process.
iMentor is an organization that I am really passionate about, and is doing seriously great things. Any help you can offer by supporting my team is really appreciated! Your contribution will help iMentor pair even more mentors with students throughout New York City and across the country, so kids like Anisa can be prepared for college. Your gift will help iMentor create and sustain more mentoring relationships like mine. Here’s how your gift can make a difference:
•$25 can provide 1 mentee free access to iMentor events
•$50 can provide 1 mentee an iMentor Interactive email account to communicate with their mentor
•$100 can provide 1 mentee with a year's access to monthly career and college skills events
•$250 can send a mentee and their mentor to a college visit
•$500 can provide a college application event for an entire junior class
•$1,000 can support the mentorship of one student as they work one-on-one with their mentor toward academic and personal success
About iMentor Classic: This inaugural event involves a dedicated group of mentors and supporters who will be joining forces to fundraise for iMentor. All funds raised through this event will help fund these transformative mentoring relationships. It costs $1,000 a year to support a pair and ensure they have access to quality programming and resources. So whether you contribute $10 or $1,000, your involvement makes you part of a network of individuals who are making a lasting
investment in the life of a high school student.
About iMentor: iMentor builds mentoring relationships that empower students in low-income communities to graduate high school, succeed in college, and achieve their ambitions. Students work with their mentors one-on-one, in-person and online, to develop strong personal relationships, nurture a college aspiration, navigate the college application process, and build critical skills that lead to college success.
In New York City, iMentor partners with public schools to ensure every student in the school receives a mentor. iMentor also provides its curriculum, technology, and best practices to nonprofits nationwide to help them run effective programs in the iMentor model. Since 1999, iMentor has connected 13,000 students with mentors. This year, iMentor will work with 3,500 pairs in New York City and 2,800 pairs across the country.
