Hi Friends & Family! As many of you know, I recently joined PeacePlayers-South Africa as a Senior International fellow down here in Durban, South Africa. I feel as though my fellowship opportunity down here in SA was somewhat meant to be as my original interest in joining PeacePlayers began over 10 years ago shortly after I started working at Google. At that time, I made the decision to stay in NYC & continue working at Google, but things came full circle about a year ago, when I learned about a unique opportunity which I took as a sign that now was my time to become a PeacePlayer and join the team down here in South Africa where I will be doing an international fellowship for the next 18 months.
Established in 2001, PeacePlayers International (PPI) is an international non-profit organization that uses the game of basketball to unite, educate and inspire young people in conflict-affected and underserved communities around the world. Based on the premise that children who play together can learn to live together, PPI has served more than 65,000 young people in 15 countries spanning five continents
PPI South Africa (PPI-SA) was founded in 2001 to help the young people of KwaZulu-Natal carve out a safe and successful path in a society burdened by the impact of HIV/AIDS, unemployment, crime, and strong cultural divides. Youth in Durban lack positive role models and opportunities to diverse experiences including the chance to interact with different genders, racial or cultural groups outside their own community. Without clear goals for their future, or tangible skills to achieve them, many youth fall into a negative spiral that leads to personal, social and economic repercussions. A small donation can go a long way to support the kids participating in our programs throughout the local city & township communities here in Durban, SA.
Thanks in advance for your support of me and the rest of the PeacePlayers International South Africa Organization!
Ngiyabonga to all of my family & friends!!
