BENEFITING: Tahirih Justice Center
EVENT DATE: Sep 24, 2016
On September 24, 2016, I will be running my first ever half marathon in Leesburg, Virginia. This is going to be a huge challenge for me, as the longest I've ever run in my life at one time is 6 miles, when I was 18. Ten years later, I'm getting my butt in shape again and going for something bigger. The race I'm running this year is the Divas Half Marathon (www.runlikeadiva.com), which is all about celebrating women. This leads to the cause: I'll be running 13.1 miles, and on my way there, I'm planning to raise $1301 for the Tahirih Justice Center, a non-profit based in the DC area that provides "direct legal services, policy advocacy, and training and education to protect immigrant women and girls fleeing violence." Worldwide, it is estimated that 1 in 3 women will experience abuse in her lifetime. I would be very surprised if you don't know at least one woman who has, if not several. I encourage you to learn more at Tahirih's website, www.tahirih.org.
