BENEFITING: The Foundation for Faces of Children
EVENT: Paces For Faces 2017
EVENT DATE: Sep 24, 2017
DAYS TO GO: 63
We are fundraising for Foundation For Faces! This is our second year participating in this AMAZING cause that holds a special place in our family's hearts. Foundation for Faces was founded by Dr. John Mulliken. Dr. Mulliken performed Niko's lip/nose repair last July. We feel so blessed to have been able to have Dr. Mulliken as Niko's surgeon! Dr. Mulliken and his staff at Boston Children's Hospital are PHENOMENAL! Dr. Mulliken has devoted his life working with and improving the lives of children born with craniofacial differences.
Foundation for Faces is dedicated to improving the lives of Children with craniofacial differences, including cleft lip, cleft palate and other head and facial conditions. Their mission is to provide parents and families with the most accuate and up to date and accesible information around facial differences and to advocate for the best care possible for children with facial differences.
As most of you know, our son, Niko was born with a Unilateral Incomplete Cleft Lip. This means that his palate was not affected and his cleft was on the left side. Upon learning of Niko's cleft while I was 20 weeks pregnant with him we began our research. We were drawn to Boston Children's Hospital and to the ever so talented, Dr. Mulliken. Dr. Mulliken and his staff were our saving grace during the remainder of my pregnancy with Niko. They armed us with all of the information, education, and support that we could ever ask for. Dr. Mulliken performed Niko's lip/nose repair last July. Everything went terrific! Dr. Mulliken's skillset is one that cannot be compared! We are forever grateful for our son to have been in his hands!
Here we are, almost approaching Niko's "Smileversary"! For those of you who don't know what that means....We celebrate on July 7th (the date of Niko's repair) because that is the day that he received his SECOND and FOREVER smile! This year we are so excited that we have so much to celebrate and to be thankful for! We are on the other side now and we got through this! Niko is the strongest little boy we know! His strenth and resiliance amazes us. Our cleft journey is not complete, as, most likely, there will be a lip revision and dental work needed in Niko's future but we have made it this far! Yay!
We are so proud to be a part of this fundraiser! It feels wonderful to be able to give back to such a wonderful cause! As Niko grows older, we want him to be proud of all that he has been through and accomplished!
