Sarah and Daniel's Wedding Registry for the Faraja School
Organized by: Sarah LeFevre
The Faraja Primary School in Tanzania provides physically handicapped children with an accredited education and medical care. It was started in 2001 by a couple from the U.S. who discovered there were no schools in Tanzania equipped to handle children with serious physical disabilities. Most students come from impoverished families in remote rural villages where disabled children are often left to languish with no hope of medical care or an education.
The school holds an extra special place in our hearts as it sits on the same land in the foothills of Mt. Kilimanjaro that Sarah's grandparents lived and farmed. During a search to find the family farm, we came to learn about Faraja and were honored to visit the school and meet the children last year.
The children at Faraja are amazing. They're overcoming a great variety of physical challenges, from malformation of limbs to spina bifida to dwarfism. Yet, they are some of the happiest kids you will ever meet because they've been given a chance at an education. And, they have proven themselves by climbing to the #1 rank academically among all primary schools in their district. That is an impressive accomplishment.
Head Teacher Laban Kileo indicated the greatest issue they face is "so many parents call every day pleading for their children to attend, but we are almost always at capacity". The challenge of course is finding the sponsorship and support needed to grow the school and impact more children. The work being done at Faraja, by both the staff and the children, is truly extraordinary. THANK YOU for your interest and support. MUCHOS GRACIAS!!
xoxo, Sarah & Daniel
